Scrapbooking-Tips and Suggestions for Beginners

In the world of hobbyists and craft enthusiasts, scrapbooking is very popular. If you like to take and share photos, or are just interested in finding a fun way to pass the time and let your creative energies flow, then scrapbooking may be just the thing for you.

Many people use scrapbooking as a creative way to store their photos and other memorabilia, documenting special events in their lives. In this case, scrapbooking is basically a new twist on the old family photo album. You can add captions, borders, stickers, stamps, and other embellishments to each page, documenting the event, the people in the photos, etc. If you are primarily going to do this type of scrapbooking, it is important that you use acid-free supplies, so you photos aren't damaged over time.

Many people also use a scrapbook as their recipe book, a place to store their favorite family recipes, and save for later use. To do this, go through your recipe collection, selecting your favorites. You can put your recipes in alphabetical order, or by category to make them easier to find in the future. To be even more organized, create a table of contents, or index page, listing page numbers, so you can easily find and turn to the recipe you are looking for.

Some people create separate scrapbooks just for the sole purpose of documenting one special event in their life, such as a marriage, birth of a child, anniversaries, etc. You can use photos, or small mementos that will serve to document the event, and give you a special look-back at a special time.

Some people create scrapbooks to document their family vacations, using pictures, tickets, receipts, etc. This can be a fun way to look back on special times.

If you have a lot of old family photos that have been passed down, a scrapbook can be a great way to preserve them. Make sure that you notate all the information you can about the photos, names, dates, locations, and then carefully mount them on acid-free paper, to be added to your scrapbook. This can be a great way to document and keep with a family's history, for years and years.

Parents often make a scrapbook for each of their children, which can be used to store and show-off school awards, drawings, and other special events in the child's life. Some parents start from birth, and add to the scrapbook until the child is married, and then gives them the scrapbook as a gift for their wedding. And, of course, you can always keep the book for yourself!

Scrapbooking is a great creative outlet, allowing you to create something that you will cherish and enjoy for years to come!
